Job Description:


The Senior Automation Engineer develops and executes Automation/Electrical/Instrumentation (AEI) projects to achieve the site's key performance goals. Provides AEI technical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving support to the site. Develops and maintains AEI work priority lists in conjunction with all supporting areas.

Active member of site Early Management (EM) or Preventative Maintenance (PM) Pillar Team. Supports AEI Equipment Obsolescence Plan in partnership with EM Pillar Team. Ensures compliance with current electrical safety rules and regulations across the site.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Enforces site safety, environmental, and GMP rules and regulations
  • Ensures that work is accomplished in a safe and efficient manner
  • Provides daily automation support to Operations and Facilities Teams
  • Executes automation-related projects
  • Participates in Production Cell Daily Direction Setting (DDS) meetings
  • Ensures completeness and quality of work
  • Communicates effectively and efficiently in all aspects of daily work
  • Create and implement training program to aid in the development of the AEI workforce
  • Ability to flex work hours, including to provide off-hours support as needed
  • Align site IT infrastructure, programming, equipment, etc. with current company standards.

    • 3-5 years of previous PLC programming experience required
    • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in a related technical field desired (Engineering, Electronics, IT, Programming, etc.)
    • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (FDA, USDA, PSM, etc.) desired
    • Prior manufacturing/process engineering experience desired
    • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals both inside and outside of organization
    • Ability to speak effectively before outside groups or employees of organization
    • Ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, blueprints, electrical schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment manuals
    • Knowledge of electronic and electrical principals
    • Knowledge of electronic components such as HMIs, VFDs, sensors, process instrumentation, etc.
    • Must be proficient in usage of standard computer programs for daily tasks
    • E-mail, MS Office, etc.


      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee will be exposed to a noisy environment at widely varying temperatures.
