Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Role Summary Our client is a
well-established manufacturing organization producing custom,
precision-machined components. This Precision Machinist Operator
role is a hands-on afternoon-shift position responsible for setting
up and operating both CNC and conventional machining equipment to
meet exact customer specifications. The role requires strong
technical machining skills, a quality-driven mindset, and the
ability to work independently in a fast-paced, job-shop style
environment. The successful candidate will contribute directly to
production efficiency, process improvement, and consistent delivery
of high-quality parts. Key Responsibilities Interpret blueprints,
technical drawings, sketches, and specifications to plan machining
sequences and determine tolerances. Set up and operate a variety of
CNC and conventional machines (e.g., mills, lathes). Select,
install, and align fixtures, tooling, and materials appropriate for
each job. Calculate and input speeds, feeds, depths of cut,
threading parameters, and tolerances; edit CNC programs as
required. Monitor machining operations and make real-time
adjustments to correct deviations or out-of-tolerance conditions.
Verify finished parts and assemblies using precision measurement
tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.). Perform trial runs
to validate machine settings and program accuracy. Build fixtures
for drilling, milling, and turning operations as needed. Complete
basic mechanical assembly and verify dimensional accuracy and
alignment. Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and production
teams to troubleshoot machining or assembly issues. Communicate
design or specification discrepancies to appropriate teams to
support continuous improvement. Maintain compliance with safety
standards, 5S practices, and quality/EHS policies. Required
Qualifications Associate degree in Machining, Tool & Die
Technology, completion of a certified apprenticeship, or equivalent
experience (typically 4 years of relevant job-shop experience). 3–5
years of hands-on experience setting up and operating both CNC and
conventional machines independently. Strong ability to read and
interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical documentation. Solid
math skills including geometry, trigonometry, fractions, ratios,
and machining calculations (speeds, feeds, threading, tolerances,
tool geometry). Demonstrated experience with single-point threading
(ID/OD/taper), tool sharpening, compensating for deflection, and
selecting specialty tooling. Proficiency using machinist handbooks
and reference materials. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving
skills with the ability to make precise adjustments. Clear verbal
and written communication skills for collaboration and reporting
discrepancies. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to
stand for extended periods and perform repetitive precision work.
Ability to lift and move heavy materials and tooling. Ability to
bend, reach, climb, and work around moving machinery. Capability to
work in a loud environment with vibration, heat, and occasional
fumes. Visual acuity for close and peripheral inspection tasks.
What Our Client Looks For A quality-focused machinist with strong
attention to detail. Reliable work history with consistent tenure.
Commitment to safety, 5S, and continuous improvement. Adaptability
in a fast-paced, custom manufacturing environment. Initiative,
accountability, and a collaborative team mindset. Additional
Details Afternoon-shift, full-time role in a production-focused
manufacturing setting. Candidates should supply their own basic
precision measuring tools (company provides safety equipment and
consumables). Equal opportunity employer.
