Job Description:

The TRIO Program Support Specialist will serve as a primary advisor for all TRiO- SSS students, assist in the recruitment and selection process for all eligible students (first generation, low income and/or disabled) and the intake process, adopt a highly intrusive advising model to motivate students to seek help when they need it through social interaction, one-on one advising meetings, and forming strong relationships with the students. The TRIO Program Support Specialist will also promote involvement in campus activities and organizations and plan, schedule, and co-facilitate, and evaluate student success workshops each semester and while performing other duties as assigned.Required QualificationBachelor's Degree required Experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disabled backgrounds of community college students. Experience working with adult learners. Supervisory or instructional experience. Knowledge of TRIO - SSS populations and intervention strategies. Ability and commitment to facilitate progress and success of TRIO - SSS eligible students (first generation, low income, and/or students with disabilities).Preferred QualificationHave or working towards a Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Education, or a related field. Experience working in Student Services at an institution of higher education, preferably at a community college. Professional experience working with first-generation students. Experience that demonstrates student-centered decision making. Experience that demonstrates successful program development and evaluation. Ability to apply student development theoryPhysical DemandsRequires prolonged standing or sitting. Includes occasional lifting of 10 pounds, the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, and other basic office equipment, regularly required to talk, hear and use a phone, and some travel, by vehicle, may be required. Reading, writing, calculating, and working with minimal supervision, a high degree of problem-solving, organizational skills, and high degree of inter-personal skills.
