Job Description:
Now hiring for August 2022! We are seeking individuals who want
to make a positive difference in the lives of young adolescents
with behavioral/personality issues. This is a great opportunity for
recent college graduates or soon to be college graduates to build
skills in the Human Services field and gain experience working with
troubled youth. Become part of a team working with students in
grades 1-12 with emotional and behavioral difficulties in a unique
school setting. The Academic Center serves students who require
intensive individual support and are in need of a self-contained
classroom. Emphasis is placed on developing the students' academic
and behavioral skills to a degree where it is possible for the
students to return to the referring school district.
Promotion opportunities are available to Paraeducators. Some
Paraeducators have become Case Managers and Supervisors within our
agency. Children's Square offers initial and ongoing training
opportunities to help all staff develop in their role. This
position is a 10-month assignment starting Fall 2021 due to there
not being school during the summer months. Paraeducators are still
eligible for our comprehensive benefits package.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches life skills daily and implements each student's
treatment plan
- Assists other Youth Workers in providing safety and ongoing
supervision, counseling, teaching, and support of youth in the
unit
- Assists the team in ongoing documentation, communication, and
monitoring of significant events of the youth and communicates this
information to team members
- Maintain supervision and know where students are at all
times
- Maintain integrity of the program structure and ensure the
therapeutic environment of the program
- Develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships
consistent with the psycho-educational model
- Implement the psycho-educational model's holistic teaching
approach to child development
- Promote a professional, positive work environment
- Effectively communicate written information to the right people
in such a way as to establish an accurate record of each child's
placement (Daily logs, GDAP's, etc.) and maintain accurate records
needed by the agency (Worker's Compensation Reports, Daily Unit
Reviews, etc.)
- Implement agency policies and procedures, licensing and
accreditation standards, and complete tasks as needed to provide
safe, therapeutic, appealing environments
- Handle crises in such a way that the positive, therapeutic
intervention model of the program is maintained
- Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree is preferred
- One year of relevant experience preferred
- Knowledge of child care practices, human growth, and
development issues including an understanding of the range of
treatment needed by the youth served
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Personal characteristics and experiential background that will
provide appropriate care for children to win their respect, to
guide them in their development, to manage a home for them
effectively, and to participate in the overall treatment program
designed for them
- Necessary stamina and temperament to work with children and
youth (birth - 18 years of age) who are experiencing crisis and/or
emotional and/or behavioral disorders
- Able to be trained in basic skills in first aid and the
identification of medical need
- Must be able to provide appropriate care and supervision of
youth at all times
- Must be able to follow and consistently implement the policies
and procedures of the agency
- Must be able to handle confidential information
appropriately
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that is insurable
under agency's insurance
- If required and authorized to drive personal vehicle on agency
business, must have automobile insurance that meets agency
policy
- Must be able to interact and work cooperatively and effectively
with other personnel and clients
- Must be able to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural
and socioeconomic characteristics in the service population
