? Position Type: PRN Scheduled Hours per 2 week Pay Period: 0 Primary Location: IA > COUNCIL BLUFFS > MERCY CB ? POSITION PURPOSE: This position contributes to the mission and vision of CHI Health by coordinating a comprehensive system for addressing the pastoral and spiritual needs of those served by CHI Health. ? Facilitates the pastoral/spiritual care of those served by assuring the use of appropriate assessment and referral process, managing the care of persons to include collaboration with faith communities and application of a broad network of response options, serving as a resource to others on pastoral/spiritual health and coordinating volunteer pastoral visitors who assist in the pastoral care of patients. ? Works in partnership and collaboration with local clergy and ministers in responding to the spiritual dimension of health and healing. ? Adapts care delivery for age-specific needs of persons and to accommodate persons with physical disabilities, chronic disease, hearing and vision limitations, and memory/behavioral impairments. ? ENVIRONMENT: CHI Health is a not-for-profit umbrella corporation providing governance, administrative management and direction to all operations of Bergan Mercy Health System (sponsored by Catholic Health Initiatives) and Immanuel Medical Center (Immanuel Health Systems). ? These two health systems have consolidated operations while maintaining separate religious identities, financial assets and medical staffs. ? Consolidated operations include five acute-care metropolitan hospitals located in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area; three rural hospitals located in Missouri Valley and Corning, Iowa and in Schuyler, Nebraska; one long-term care facility located in Omaha; one ambulatory service facility at Lakeside in Omaha; minority owner of community hospital in Blair; home care programs serving the region; multiple metropolitan and rural health care clinics/offices; major programmatic initiatives in managed care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral health, senior services, cardiovascular services, orthopedics, women?s and children?s services, and oncology; and joint ventures with community partners in pediatrics and hospice. ? ? NATURE AND SCOPE: The incumbent works collaboratively with Operations Director for Chaplaincy Services to implement quality pastoral care. ? Coordinates the pastoral/spiritual services for patients and families served by CHI Health and participates in the development of staff regarding the spiritual dimension of health and healing. ? Actively works with area clergy and ministers to facilitate the healing process. ? ? PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: ? ???????? Provides pastoral care to patients and their families according to the Standards and Competencies for Professional Chaplains. ?????????? ? ???????? Receives and responds to patient/family referrals from other members of the healthcare team. ? ???????? Conducts assessments with patients to develop a pastoral plan of care, engages in stated interventions, and necessary evaluations. ? Provides professional documentation as required by department. ? ???????? Protects patient confidentiality always. ? ???????? Provides pastoral consultation to employees, physicians, volunteers, and students when indicated. ? ???????? Coordinates the ministry of prayer and appropriate rituals with patients, families, and staff, and partners with local church/congregation leaders whenever possible. ? Provides services according to age specific needs, physical disabilities, and memory/behavioral impairment of patients. ? ???????? Coordinates spiritual/pastoral ministry for those at the End of Life according to departmental protocol. ? ???????? Adheres to departmental policies and procedures and Standards of Care Practices for Pastoral Services. ? ???????? Provides education for healthcare staff in the understanding of the spiritual dimension of healing. ? ???????? Participates as a core member of the interdisciplinary team and exercises professional judgment in decision making. ? ???????? Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in department meetings, in-service programs and continuing educational opportunities. ? ???????? Demonstrates a positive, professional attitude with patients, families, visitors, and other personnel according to Standards of Practice and organizational commitments. ? ???????? Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department. ? ???????? Demonstrates work practices consistent with CHI Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies. ??????? ? QUALIFICATIONS: Experience Past experience in a pastoral or ministry field preferred. ? Experience in community based models of health care, incorporation of integrative therapies for healing and demonstrated success in facilitating comprehensive response plans for pastoral/spiritual care of person preferred. ? Education/Licensure Preferred: Master?s Degree or equivalency in theology, behavioral science, ministry or related field. ? Completion of one units of Clinical Pastoral Education. ? Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills required. ? Understanding of the grief process, crisis intervention and interpersonal dynamics required. ? Ability to conduct assessments, document plan of care, provide services and evaluate patients? spiritual needs required. ? Good working skills and public speaking ability. ?
