Job Description:

The City of Council Bluffs is currently hiring for the position of Chief Building Official!

Pay: $80,469.95 annually with step increases to $102,702.98 annually

Responsibilities: An employee in this class is responsible for directing the City s Permits & Inspections Division. This includes supervising skilled permit technicians, administrative staff, housing, building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing inspectors and ensuring that City codes, ordinances, and safety regulations are enforced.

Requirements:

• Bachelor s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Construction Management, or a related area
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in building codes and permits
• Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Must have or ability to attain licenses/certifications within 18 months:
  • Certified Building Official by the International Code Council (ICC)
  • Certifications or licenses for architecture and/or engineering recognized in the State of Iowa (if the CBO is an Architect or Engineer)
  • Master Code Professional by the International Code Council (ICC), preferred
  • Certifications for building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and plans examiner, preferred The City of Council Bluffs is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
