VCA Midwest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center is seeking full-time Licensed Veterinary Technicians to join our Emergency & Critical Care Team at our AAHA-accredited, emergency/multi-specialty practice in Omaha, NE. $1,500 Signing Bonus offered Shift Differential Offered 10pm-6am This is a great opportunity to utilize your Technician skills, work with a dynamic team and expand your knowledge while working in a fast-paced environment! You will be challenged to use all of you knowledge, know-how and skills to the best of your ability, in a teaching hospital, with a team that will support you along the way. We are currently experiencing phenomenal growth and expansion with many of our services. This position allows for great flexibility as you will only work 3 days per week on a rotation. Requirements State of Nebraska Veterinary Technician License required. This position works a 3 day rotation that includes working, overnights, weekends, and holidays. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is friendly, outgoing, people - oriented and has excellent communication and client service skills. Responsibilities Demonstrate excellent relations with clients/pets in waiting and/or exam rooms. Ensure that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable. Serve as Ambassadors for creating and maintaining goodwill for the hospital. Build rapport with clients and pets. If there is a delay, keep clients informed of expected waiting time. Ability to effectively communicate and educate clients on general animal husbandry and answer financial questions Efficiently and accurately triage patients Compassionate nursing care is the top priority for all patients. Make certain all patients are kept clean and as comfortable as possible. Ability to perform a cursory examination of an animal, use a stethoscope and otoscope, recognize potential health care issues, signs and behavior patterns that suggest an animal may be in pain, and necessity of veterinarians examination. Keep records up to date. This includes client records with charges, medical history, medications administered, laboratory reports, etc. Maintain all log books (radiology, surgery, anesthesia, laboratory and controlled substance logs, etc.). Understand how to maintain and use the hospitals inhalation anesthetic machines. Monitor anesthesia under direct doctor supervision. Understand principles of aseptics in the surgery room and participate in maintaining sterile conditions. Know the names and general uses of surgical instruments and equipment. Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and packs. Be willing and able to assist the doctor with certain surgical procedures. Know how to properly use positioning devices so that patients may be radiographed. Practice all safety regulations in regard to radiology. Laboratory: Draw blood samples, collect stool and urine samples, prepare lab request forms, perform certain laboratory tests: In the Pharmacy create prescription labels, fill prescriptions and dispense medications as directed by a doctor. Control inventory and assist in ordering medications and supplies. Make certain entire hospital both inside and outside, including treatment, surgery, kennels, runs, parking lot and entry is kept very clean throughout the day (so that a client could enter the treatment room and/or hospital ward and see their pet without any notice). This includes your own clothing and appearance. Other tasks that support hospital operations, patient care, and client service.
