Description: Administrative Technician within the NE Department of
Agriculture, Agriculture Promotion and Development Department
(APD). The Administrative Technician is a customer-facing role
providing customer service and administrative support to APD
Department Program Managers and Specialists. Primary responsibility
is to the NextGen and Negotiations programs. Look at what we have

customer service via all communication methods including phone,
email, and person to person. Communicate with compassion to farmers
and ranchers who may be experiencing distress. Provide technical
and administrative support to the Nebraska Beginning Farmer Board
of Directors. Arrange schedules and agendas, organize conferences,
record minutes, and prepare a written record of proceedings for
various meetings. Review and provide feedback to applicants in the
Beginning Farmer Program to ensure complete and accurate
applications are prepared to present to the Beginning Farmer Board.
Communicate effectively throughout the application, review,
approval, and implementation process with program applicants and
participants. Confidentially collect and review information and
draft responses to inquiries or complaints of a potentially
sensitive nature including access to personal financial
information. Compile records and create reports, including USDA
reporting. Administrative work for the APD Department’s
programming, as well as administrative assistance to the Director
and Deputy Director as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Coursework/training or experience related to research,
presentation, or publication in an area related to the programs or
functions of the employing agency; business administration;
accounting; customer service; and/ or technical support work,
including use of computer software such as word processing,
spreadsheets, and database management. Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s degree. One year of experience in administrative
support in a government agency, or administrative, business
management, or technical support work. Experience may substitute
for education on a year-for-year basis. Experience in and a passion
for growing agriculture in Nebraska and supporting farmers and
ranchers. Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Strong skills in communication and time management. Deadline
oriented. Customer oriented. Ability to prioritize, manage, and
accurately and timely complete assignments from several staff at
the same time. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge: The
techniques of preparing/drafting/proofreading of documents and
forms; administrative and office processes and procedures and
associated computer applications such as word processing, file
management, record keeping, and database management; customer
service processes and principles; the procedures of administrative
agencies; administration and management principles and practices;
business operations. Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access,
PowerPoint, DocuSign, Adobe, etc. Highly detail-oriented with
emphasis on proofreading for grammar, punctuation, financial data,
and typographical errors and consistency in formatting. Active
listening; asking questions; understanding instructions; creating
spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and reports; managing time,
schedules, and priorities; monitoring and assessing program
performance; applying critical thinking techniques. Abilities: Work
with minimal supervision and in a team setting; manage caseload
with minimal supervision; balance assignments from numerous staff;
interact and communicate in person, and by telephone, computer,
email, and correspondence with the public, regulated industries,
agency staff, and other government employees; file management;
